One often comes across this very famous saying that “change is the only constant”. Let me use these words in a different order to present my life story. For me, what has remained constant through various changes in life is Aditya Birla Group (ABG). I remember vividly, my father taking me out for shopping for a function at my school a few years ago. I had not much sense of what clothes were good so I relied on my father’s decision of which brand to go for. It was then that I was introduced to my father’s preferred choice of clothing line, Louis Phillipe. That was one day when I knew nothing about the brand and today is a totally different story when this very brand makes more than half of my wardrobe. It is all about that connect and a sense of belonging with the brand that makes a space for itself in the mind and heart of the customers. In another instance, my parents zeroed in on Ultratech Cement for the construction of our house and that shall remain the preferred choice in the future for me as well because it indeed was an engineer’s choice, my father’s choice. From as big as a house to as small as a pair of socks, ABG has constantly influenced my life and not just mine but my family’s as well. And it shall continue to do so in the future because of the loyalty ABG has garnered by delivering the best in terms of quality. It is such subtle touches that any brand lends, in terms of value for customer, which influences lives of people in ways they never imagine, the way the ABG did in my case.
An instance that immediately comes to my mind when I think of a challenge that I faced would be a project that I worked on in my last job. The project was a construction dispute between two international entities and the arbitration for it was filed in an international arbitration forum. My job was to do the quantum analysis of the claims that arose due to the dispute. The difficulty that I faced was that my analysis was heavily dependent on the documentary evidence of all the costs associated with the claims but the documents related to the project were either in Turkish or Russian language. While most of the team members had zeroed in on the idea of getting the documents translated which would have taken a lot of time, in order to work around the challenge, I made use of one help at our disposal that can do wonders i.e. technology. I worked diligently and extracted the data which was relevant for my analysis and completed the task before the deadline. The quality of my work was highly appreciated by my company’s management and the client. For me, it was not about just getting something done but to make a difference in the minds of my colleagues and to take an unconventional approach to a problem that we faced. One takeaway from this entire experience was that if one is motivated enough to get something done, one will find a way to accomplish it no matter how many hindrances come their way which is not only applicable to work life but to every aspect of life.
