Tracing it’s roots to a cotton trading enterprise in 19th century Rajputana by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla, the group was pivotal in the transformation of agrarian India and was a partner in the nation’s journey towards independence and it’s evolution into the powerhouse that it is today. Being a close confidant of Mahatma Gandhi, the group’s founding father, Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla supported the nation’s freedom movement and helped found businesses and industries in critical sectors such as metals, textiles, cement and chemicals, which would prove essential for the young nation. It could be said that we have all benefited from these things as citizens of India. Being the world’s largest producer of Viscose staple fibers, with operations in India, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and China, the group owns various fashion brands and retail outfits. Brands such as Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen and Peter England are popular among the urban populace. I personally shop from Louis Philippe and Van Heusen since the brands offer high quality and fashionable clothing year after year. Being a young person, I have hopes, dreams and aspirations and look forward to a better life. Empowering us in that regard is the infrastructure which supports the nation and allows it to prosper. There too, we find the hand of ABG which is involved in everything from the construction sector, with UltraTech as one of the world’s largest cement manufacturers right up to telecom. ABG’s Insurance and finance interests reach out to us and help make our lives more secure. All in all, the far reaching impact of the massive $44.3 billion corporation across the world keeps touching lives and inspires us by adhering to its core values to this very day. I hope to be able to be a part of this institution and imbibe the spirit and passion that continues to enrich lives across the world.
