Life holds different opportunities and challenges for everyone. I, too, had or infact still have my fair share of challenges in front of me amongst the many opportunities. Like many of my peers, I aspired to become an engineer after finishing my senior secondary education. The challenges were many due to the fact that I had just relocated to New Delhi, an entirely new place to pursue coaching classes from one of the premier coaching institutes of India. The competition from some of the best minds from across the country spurred me on to stay focussed and concentrate on the goal. Though I couldn’t get into the prestigious IITs, I secured admission into one of the top private engineering colleges of the country.
The four years of engineering taught me a lot. The first challenge I faced was to adapt myself to a culture away from home and live amongst a diverse group of people in a hostel. Eventually, I adjusted and the next challenge in front of me was to get into the automotive team of my college which I surpassed by diligently preparing for the selection rounds. On reaching the final year of my college, I wanted to move on to the next phase of my life and pursue a career in management.
Coming to the phase of interviews of premier business schools of India, I discovered that most of the aspirants had work experience but as a fresher, I never got intimidated by this fact and just performed to my best. This single minded focus and determination got me into one of the top management schools of India. I have learnt a lot in my first year of MBA and I believe there is still a lot of things to learn and self development at this stage of life is key to set myself up for a successful professional career.
