How I overcame the challenges that came my way
Born in a small village in South India, being a reserved and an introvert having trouble socialising
with people. Not knowing the local language also added up to the fear and awkwardness of having a
conversation.
Also being a lean guy always being made fun of by people added to the lack of confident. Not being
able to grasp any thing in School and being punished my the teachers at school for not being able to
solve a single problem.. All of these combined to form a scary and sad childhood.
But things started changing gradually as I tried to improve in studies and the results were visible. I
topped the 10 th std batch of my college. The day I joined engineering I decided to confront my fears
and shortcomings, as some quote goes the best way out of a problem is through it. I challenged
myself to talk to people in the languages that I was not fluent with. From knowing only two language
to being fluent in almost 6 language, I overcame the fear of being social with people, the first step I
took was talking to strangers, this is one habit that I instilled in me.
Started taking up challenges and participating each and every event, clubs and committee. It was
difficult initially but later on I got started getting used to it. I then decided to pursue MBA and I had
targeted the IIMs. I was an average student when it came to English vocabulary. In my first attempt
I just managed to score 60 percentile, which was well below the cutoff for most of the IIMs even
though I had scored 98 percentile in Quant. So I made up my mind to take up CAT one more time
with more rigorous preparation this time. I had to manage my studies along with work. I decided to
dedicate 3 hours a day for CAT preparation after coming back from work. It was not possible for me
for a stretch of 3 hrs. I took up this challenge and isolated myself from all external distraction and
made up a habit of reading something or the other. My vocabulary was not at par with the CAT
preparation. I continued this for around 3 months. On Jan 7th when the CAT results had arrived, my
hardwork payed off, I had managed to clear all the sectional cutoffs and also a very good overall CAT
percentile. Now I had to prepare for my interviews and it was the time to concentrate on my
interpersonal skills,I took a week of from my Work and started giving mocks. The interviews
went well also now any social conversation or a public speaking doesn’t scare me, I always
remember my beginnings from a confused and petrified kid to being a confident individual studying
at one of the Prestigious B schools in India I have come a long way.
I always believing being a better version of me every single day. Nothing is impossible, once you
start believing in yourself.
