Being a vernacular medium student, I was not used to speaking in English. Even in our English periods, the teacher used to prefer talking in Odia instead. Though I scored good numbers in English, I was not very fond of English debate competitions. After I joined my engineering college, when the teacher asked any questions, I was scared to raise my hand even though I knew the answers. I wanted to get rid of this situation very badly. But I didn’t know how to get rid of the stage fear.
As an enthusiastic quizzer, I joined our college quiz club. I was awed by the beauty of the questions put forth and the extraordinary way the question is conveyed by the Quizmaster. Though I could set a lot of good questions, I could not gather enough courage to go on stage and ask them myself. So much was the stage fear that I actually got my friend cum quiz partner to host my first question set in college.
Then I took a resolution to get rid of the stage fear and address the problem head-on. I hosted at least one set of questions each week for the entire third year of my college. At first, it was difficult because I was really conscious of my pronunciation and presentation, but gradually that fear went away. I could finally I could present myself in front of a large crowd. What I realized in this arduous journey is that perseverance is the key to success. And with perseverance, every problem can be solved.
