How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
I wasn’t one of the brightest students in the class, I used to be considered myself an average student, with no extracurricular participation I was thinking that I wasn’t having any talent even though we were kids that time. But after passing the 10th I gave it a shot to try learning something that we help build up myself confidence and go of my nervousness in front of the large crowd. In 11th I chose to learn guitar through one of my classmates, I was sure that I will be able to learn something from him and after few months I saw progress in my playing style with constant effort and dedication. Being said that my classmate who was giving me Guitar lesson moved out a new city so at that I was left alone with no one to teach as my parent wasn’t so supportive of my learning guitar as they were thinking that I was just slacking off the studies and this was a part of it. Though I didn’t leave playing guitar I was constantly searching from the YouTube about guitar lesson and I would practice them.
After that when I reached the 12th standard, It was that time I wasn’t given time to play guitar as the saying goes in every Indian Family” This is 12th Board, Study for the Board and once the exam completed you can do whatever you want”. And then the Board exam was completed but there was something called Engineering/Medical which is forced by every family to for the future years. And after giving my OJEE and exam for state engineering colleges. I was lucky or partly lucky because the Engineering I got admission was a Government engineering college. It was this college which shaped my entire future I am right now. When I joined the college I bought back my Guitar to the college as there was no one to say now that leaves the guitar and study. Soon I begin the guitar lesson that I left before starting 12th thought I was playing guitar like a newbie but with constant dedication and hard work, I was playing decent enough.
Playing Guitar helped me a lot in the coming year in my college life. I was approached by a final year senior who was looking for a Bass guitarist for his band, though I said that I am a Guitarist, not a Bass Guitarist as there is a big difference for me as this was a new zone that I was entering in my playing style. The senior taught me how to play bass as well as offered me to a spot as bass guitarist in his band and as for few it may not sound a big deal, but for me, it was because from school till starting of college I haven’t any talent that I can show. But this offer made me happy because the first time I was been given a chance in term of my talent. Everything was the first time for me play as a Bass guitarist, Band member and first time playing in stage and also the first time in front of the audience. Though I was nervous, scared due to this I was about to throw up. But the Band member helped me to calm down and one of my batchmate who was also the band member said to me “Dude don’t fear with the stage, Make this stage your stepping stone for the success that you want to achieve”. The words helped me a lot to overcome the stage fear as well as help me boost my confidence. And after that, we didn’t look back again to my low self-esteem and nervousness and lack of confidence. After the performance when I came down from the stage I was a different person in terms of thinking and my self-esteem and confidence. And In third year I and the batch mate formed a new Band “AcousticA” and we have performed in 7 competitions that were organized by different colleges.
I was able to overcome my challenges of nervousness, shyness and lack of confidence by meeting new people and going to different places and interacting with the audience this was much helpful in term of giving a new way of looking thing that if you fear something then just try to overcome that fear and make that your stepping stone for your success. This traits which I acquired over the years in my college as part of the Band also help me overcome the shy, nervousness and low confidence and present me a better person as well this helped me in my interviews where I present myself with confidence in-front the interviewer. Which helped me to reach the college I currently pursuing MBA that is IIM Trichy which is one of the top B-school.
