Right on the cusp of the “new normal”, when I thought of the idea of a virtual internship, I was understandably quite apprehensive about what and how I might learn and build my skills. The pandemic has made my classmates and me a part of the first-ever cohort at IFMR GSB to secure and pursue an internship completely online. However, it couldn’t have been more fulfilling! It’s been a smooth ride right from the beginning, with special credit to Credit Suisse India’s HR team for ensuring that we interns have a smooth onboarding and exit process.

Virtual SIPs at Credit Suisse India

Nothing came in the way of the projects I was assigned at Credit Suisse India. The projects were structured in such a way that one could easily work out of the home with all the required IT accesses made available ahead of the starting date.

My project was related to market risk and associated mitigation techniques. The project was not just about simply getting down to business, but also involved multiple discussions with the entire team, careful decisions, and lots of knowledge sharing. The internship was designed in such a way that I not only learned from the project alone but also picked up other learnings through the several exchanges and discussions I had with the team and management. While I had never met the team before and interacted with them for only a short period, I still felt included thanks to their mentorship and guidance which helped me complete my project well before time.

The Journey Forward

Credit Suisse follows an open door policy. Owing to their approachability, I could resolve all my doubts and queries instantly, with the added advantage of being guided by them throughout. One of the memorable experiences during my internship was the one-on-one session with the director/business leader of several verticals at Credit Suisse. These sessions gave me an overview of the several intricacies of the business straight from the experts and their learnings thus far. The skills I built here will surely complement my future learnings.

An internship to remember, I am truly grateful to the faculty and program seniors at IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) for securing my internship and supporting us interns while we were all coming to terms with the “new normal” and reeling from the challenges of the extraordinary crisis.
