I got placed in the reputed FMCG organisation, MTR Foods Pvt. Ltd. In a pool campus placement process and I was ecstatic at getting an internship in an FMCG organisation.
I remember preparing rigorously for this interview because I wanted to ace it. So, I went on to read about MTR Foods thoroughly, whether it was their history, goals, values or the various categories they dealt in. Coincidentally, I had also done a detailed project report on MTR Foods in the first month of my MBA journey as well which helped me a lot in cracking this interview. It is indeed rightly said that no knowledge ever goes waste. Also, having no work experience made it all the more important for me to know my strengths and weaknesses thoroughly so that I can present myself to my interview panel in such a manner that they see me as worthy enough to work for their esteemed organisation.
My co-curricular activities all through my education , perfectly balanced with my academics actually bore fruit at this time. The first year at MBA itself had groomed to a great extent which I could gauge from my oration and conduct during the entire interview process. Being a part of the Public Relations Cell and the Marketing club of my college taught me a lot of things that helped me ace the interview. Whether it was planning, organising and coordinating PAN- India level events, interacting with corporate guests, handling last minute situations with quick thinking, I had done it all for my committee and club. All these experiences helped me perform better with a greater amount of professionalism in the organisation.
My role in the organisation was to ‘Develop Vernacular Content Strategy for MTR via Digital Media’ which included numerous layers starting from a macro-level secondary research on the digital landscape in India along with the penetration of vernacular content in India. Further it moved to a micro- level primary research with respect to vernacular content consumption digitally by the specific markets MTR focused on. Both primary and secondary level research brought out some amazing results with respect to digital content consumption patterns of the people in India with rural India being a major part of it. Post the research part, the next step involved conducting a media research to understand what type of content, media vehicles and consumption patterns are made by the target audience. This media research included finding the type of ad-units that would help boost the presence of the organisation and developing content for the same with the right media to access.
In these two months I learnt a lot about the corporate world. I learnt that the terrifying image I had in my mind had been completely shattered. I understood how systematic things are and how core values like punctuality, trustworthiness, kindness, dedication, determination and value-driven behaviour go a long way in making you successful. I discovered my strong and weak points and learnt how to work on them. Most importantly I learnt how to add more time into the crunch of time that you have in order to improve your productivity. My confidence also increased by leaps and bounds by interacting with huge names in this industry. It was an experience of a lifetime, working for MTR Foods, which groomed my personality a lot.
In the end, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to MTR’s CMO, Mr. Sunay Bhasin and my project head, Mr. Joy Chakravorty- Head of Digital Marketing, E-Commerce and Retail at MTR Foods for being extremely patient and helpful at all points of time. I have been given help and guidance at every step I got stuck to work upon and improve upon the quality of my work. My learning experience at MTR increased manifold because of the strong support and guidance that I had in the form of my Project Head.
To everyone who is on the brink of sitting for their Summer Internship Process, I would only say that prepare well by reading about the company you aspire to be in, work upon yourself by continuously adding to your skill set, keep yourself calm and composed during the process and just be yourself.
