Walking the less traveled road...
I remember coming across a quote by Swami Vivekananda "You can't cross the sea by merely staring at it". This rang a bell in my mind and forced me to contemplate about my life and what I want from it. Coming from a small place in Jammu and Kashmir, I always felt I was lacking opportunities and exposure but I always had the constant urge to learn and grow myself as a person. Being a learner it was a huge challenge for me to whether to stay there with my family or move out to seek new challenges and learn. Knowing the importance of exposure and opportunities I decided to move out of my place and head to Mumbai to pursue my graduation. Next thing I remember was the cultural shock I was exposed to. Knowing the importance of communication and networking, I decided to face my fears and started facing situations with confidence. I was adapting to the new environment. Initially, I failed and faced embarrassment but my positive proactive attitude kept me going. I would do everything that required courage and was slowly able to overcome my fears. And now after almost three years of working, I have lived in 6 different cities wherever opportunity invited me. I have tackled every challenge that my journey threw at me. I don't remember now saying no to anything. We just have to be positive and fearless to face anything. At worst we will fall down but falling down is not bad rather not bouncing back is.
We have to become adaptable to sustain the journey of life. That’s the only way forward. Things in real life don't work our way so it’s important to change the surroundings instead of focusing on changing ourselves from within to make a difference. I have changed from a reactive problem solver to proactive problem finder and solver and that’s what has brought me here at IIM Raipur to face the new
challenges.
