20th century, years where the world is emerging into 3G, smartphones and social media, we, on almost outskirts of a small town called Nizamabad on borders of Telangana, are struggling for an edge signal. I had never known that a mobile signal is so important until I moved to Hyderabad residential college for my intermediate education in 2011. A Mumma’s boy, from a joint family, grown among tens of friends and fathomless love of the village, now all alone at a far of place, struggling for small talk with home people. Rarely, I do get mobile in hand, and even then, there is a struggle, Mobile signal. My people need to come out of home and stand near a road, all for just one-point signal.
Life’s hard — no proper talks for many days. Homesick grew in me and thought to give up college and return home. When frustration was almost crossing threshold levels, I realised the calls where hassle-free. Thanks to the then newly launched Idea telecom service at my place and being India’s first operator to launch mobile number portability. Though this is a small part of what you have done, I think, this had a significant impact on my life. Proper talks, Home people's confidence in me shared over voice, made me stay, study a little more, get a better seat in prestigious colleges, and here I'm at IIT Delhi still on Idea signal. As years went, Miles increased between my family and me, yet, the confidence we place in you, makes us bound over an invisible telecom service.
Thanks for this opportunity, the only way I can thank you.
