A company with humble beginnings after independence is now a market leader in various fields not only in India but also has a worldwide standing and we often do not even realize their contribution to our lives.
Setting goals and targets is one of the most important things that a company does and is also important in an individual’s life. The biggest challenge I have faced is pursuing a career where I was not adequately engaged. After my under-graduation, I joined one of the ‘dream’ companies and was initially content with life. However, at times I felt that I was becoming stagnant and monotony was setting in. I began to wonder if this was all there is. It affected my confidence, self-esteem and sent a knock-out blow to my career goals.
After working for almost two years and multiple projects coming simultaneously coming an end, I stood at a crossroads with varied option to pursue and realized that I did not know where I saw myself after five, ten and fifteen years. I realized it was time to set some goals and I asked myself was whether I wanted to be someone who was just a technical employee or an someone who was wanted to climb the corporate ladder. Another question was to whether pursue my ambitions for a career in management or go for a master’s education in a higher technical course and go the academic way. The choices were plenty and time constrained. The challenge in this short span of time was to look at the various possible futures and judging where I really saw myself going. Finally set basic long-term goals of pursuing a management degree.
Based on these long-term objectives the short-term steps came easy. Starting with MBA entrance exams I took admission into MBA at SIBM-Bengaluru and have made a career switch from IT to management studies based on where my real interests and competencies lie.
