Mathematics is a subject that sends shiver down student’s spines. It is usually detested and students would better jump from the first floor than dawdle in the quagmire that maths is.
I used to be the same kid who was genuinely terrified of Maths. The mere sight of the hefty RD Sharma books used to make me nauseous. Even after forcibly being sent to coaching classes for Maths, nothing worthwhile came out of it. My parents were disheartened!! Their kid was not going to be an Engineer? What a shame jibed the omniscient relatives. My father being a mechanical engineer himself was an even greater cause of embarrassment for me.
In 9th standard I badly flunked the maths subject scoring an abysmal 15 marks out of 100. During the parent teacher meet, when the teacher described my handicap to my father, I could see the disappointment on his face. That was the moment I realized I had to conquer this beast no matter what. I had to make my parents proud! I started going through the fundamentals. If the base is not strong, the building cannot stand, that was my core understanding. Seeing my renewed vigour my father actively got involved in my path to mathematical nirvana. Dedicating his after-office hours to my journey, he boosted my capabilities.
Even though the journey was full of blood and sweat, it was all worth it as I scored a complete 10 Grade Point in my 10th standard. The feeling of pride on my father’s face was the time when I realized I had finally made it.
