UltraTech Cement has been a key partner to most all of the metro projects in India, including Delhi, of which I have been a frequent traveler for the past few years – making me derive a learning that commitment, solidarity and trust are important attributes in relationships.
The company has woven itself beautifully into our lives as it continues to reinvent itself by adopting latest technologies, introducing new processes and revamping its portfolio. For e.g. it continues to leverage social media such as Facebook, Instagram and mobile apps such as Fynd, Myntra, Amazon, etc. as customers increasingly prefer to operate through their mobile phones and digital channels.
This is one of the reasons why I am among the loyal fan base of its apparel brands such as Pantaloons, Van Heusen, etc. – as there are plethora of choices followed by seamless customer service support.
Such is the reliability factor of the company, that my mother who is a homemaker who always wanted to venture into stock trading has finally decided to kickstart the journey and needless to say, the first shares she has purchased are that of Aditya Birla Group on NSE.
I want to highlight that the company has impacted me not only outside but also inside – It has taught me to admit mistakes and fix problems to build stronger relationships, strive towards integrity, quality, performance, perfection and above all character.
Through ABG, I have imbibed the notion that while progressing ahead with times with flying high with wings, we must retain our values and strengthen our roots.
Rest if you must, But do not Quit!
Hi, my name is Nidhi Singh and I’m born and brought up in Delhi. Hailing from a small town in Bijnor District, Uttar Pradesh, my parents have had a humble upbringing, and have always strived to offer me and my elder brother the best they can.
Coming from a family where getting into an English-speaking school was a herculean task, I got admission into Mother’s International School which is among the top schools of the Capital. During my school days, I learnt to overcome my apprehensions of not able to speak English fluently – both written and verbal communication.
Facing ridicule in the initial days, I did not let go of hope and practiced additionally at home – be it troubling my mother for daily dictations and insisting for reading novels to develop a sense of comfort with the language.
Following tremendous improvements in grades in Class X, XII, B.E. and till date, now, I am a refined version of my old self and stand confidently in public speaking events due to the massive effort I had invested during my childhood days – coping up with ridicule and self-realization.
Professionally, I would like to mention a challenge that I faced in the initial months as a business analyst in a department which was in a startup phase in a market research firm. The team faced operational challenges such as frequent changes in responsibility, limited resources and visibility, fluctuating working hours, among others.
Initially being anxious as a fresher, I kept my composure and strived to focus on my performance through structured planning, collaborating with team members and even going beyond the call of duty to deliver client outputs. This opportunity was an experimental phase for me, however it did teach me how to support and coordinate among team members and support. Following the delivery of client output, when our sub-team got awarded for the project, we got a sense of pride that we somehow managed to pull off an impossible looking task.
Handling stress along with job responsibilities was also a major challenge that I overcame to appear for CAT examinations and secure admission into one of the leading MBA institutions – IIM Trichy. This involved meticulous planning of my daily schedules, effective time management, timely seeking mentoring from peers and teachers, along with my do-not-give-up attitude which made me evolve.
These challenges taught me to not fear failures, instead derive a set of learnings from them to strive towards a better version of oneself. I have learnt that I should continue to adapt to dynamic environments, and be accommodative of others’ thoughts while adding my perspective to the table. These obstacles have helped me refine my personality and made me stronger to overcome other challenges that I would face in my later stages of life.
