PART B
The year is 2014. I have recently taken admission in B. Tech in ICT (Information and Communication Technology). I was excited to start my college life and also learn all the popular technical skills to be a pro. But soon after the 1st semester started, I realized that only being excited was not enough. I found myself struggling with the norms of coding. No matter how much I try, I wasn’t able to remember the syntax and other rules of the C language. After some time, I developed a disliking for coding. I had a very negative perspective of coding, which, as a result, lead to excuses for avoiding it altogether. This resulted in me getting an ’F’ grade in that course.
I felt really low and was very angry with me. I knew that in the end, this was my fault. I knew that If I had gone that extra mile in my efforts, I could have understood it. But I didn’t lose hope. I thought that I still had a chance in the supplementary exams, which were 45 days away. I decided to start preparing right away but came across a hurdle even before I can start. There were many family functions aligned in the summer of 2015, which I had to attend. So I had to go to Palanpur (my hometown) and study amid the chaos that comes with marriages. It was difficult because there was a lot of work to be done there and you have to help as well. I wasn’t able to cover much of the syllabus there. But as soon as the functions got over, I moved back to Ahmedabad in my P.G. and started preparing again.
10-12 days after I got back, I got the news about my grandfather's untimely death. I was really shocked and depressed after hearing this as I was very close to him. At this point, the exam was only three days away. I knew that I would have to again go to Palanpur and travel from there for a day to give my exam. But I didn’t backdown. I took this as a challenge upon myself. In the end, when the results were announced, I had passed the exam with a “B-“ grade. I know that this is not such an impressive grade, but for me, it was an achievement. That was the moment when I realized that you could succeed against all odds if you show the will to never backdown.
