Aditya Birla Group’s current Chairman, Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, believes that if living by our values means growing at a slower pace than one would have hoped, then so be it. This is the kind of values this world needs at the moment and this planet would be a better place to live in soon enough.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
Life is unpredictable; this is something everyone on this planet agrees to. Hence, there is no guarantee that working towards a particular goal will fetch you success. It is how you deal with that failure that makes a difference. Ambitions come with their own set of challenges. When it comes to challenges, what I believe is almost everything can be achieved with determination and perseverance. If one is determined enough and continues to work towards achieving a goal, one would definitely succeed.
My philosophy is if you want to achieve something, you must aim for the best. It’s not about winning or losing against anyone. It’s just that only by aiming for the top one can be sure of putting in 100% effort. Seeing the competition motivates people to push their limits in order to achieve something. This has proved to be a useful strategy for me.
The latest and the most appropriate example of this would be my preparation to join NMIMS, Mumbai. Since NMIMS is one of the leading B schools in the country, I knew there would be cutthroat competition to get into this college. I prepared, I failed. I thought I could have done better; this was the only regret I had. The next time I prepared for this exam, I gave my best shot to it. I aimed for the maximum marks I could possibly get. This helped me focus better and actually help me push my limits. Soon, I was able to perform better in mocks and finally was able to crack NMAT to get into this college.
So, there is more to life than winning and losing. In the end, it is efforts that matter. If you are willing to go the extra mile to achieve your goal, there is no one on this planet who can stop you.
