Let the Challenge be a prerequisite to bolster hope – Venkatesh Vallabhaneni (#IIM Trichy)
There are many instances of everyone’s life where we face problems. Some don’t give up and some do. The question is whoever did not, what did that person do that gave him/her an extra boost for not giving up. That person did not choose the easy path. I believe everyone’s life is a roller-coaster filled with challenges. What differentiates that person is the will to go on. I would like to discuss one challenge in my life that I overcame and how it made me resistant enough to face other challenges and also what lessons it taught me and made me realize of being confident even in situations of zero hope.
During my undergrad, we had a fresher’s party called Kalakriti, which we used to celebrate back in our college. Being the secretary of the dance club, I had to face a situation which we had never faced before. One particular year, it so happened that we had to face 3 days of continuous dance events. Kalakriti, Independence Day, and Secretary flash mob (where all the secretaries of cultural clubs perform). As exams were also scheduled around the same time and we had a limited number of dancers and very limited time, it was difficult to manage and complete the work. I strategized the work and divided my team into marketing, choreography, stage work and I was continuously following up with them. This was only made possible with the endless support that I got from other secretaries and my teammates. That day, I learned the true power of teamwork and peer support.
Dance is my passion. But it was never about just getting the opportunity to perform on stage. It was much more than that. Dancing is one part and organizing to give an opportunity for someone else to participate is something else. There were many friends who said that it was not possible and we would ruin all the 3 events if we try to manage all. The suggestion was to drop at least one event. We did take that as a challenge and but yes, we felt skeptical every now and then. But it was that hope that leads us and when we went through it, it was a miracle and we also received appreciation from our college Dean. This gave us enough support and confidence to tackle our future and the key lesson was simple: work hard and do not lose hope.
