The Birla Group of Companies was founded in 1857, coincidentally, in the same year when India’s Sepoy mutiny, the first revolt against the British started. It all started with Seth Shiv Narayan Birla’s venture into cotton trading. One can fathom the tumultuous times that shaped the Aditya Birla Group of today, a US $44.3 billion company, with a workforce of 120,000 from around 42 countries. The prestigious Indian conglomerate which had its humble beginnings in 1857, had a dream and believed that "they can", now has a business in various sectors such as Finance, Chemicals, Metal, Cement, Textile, Fashion, and Telecom, where "they are". With over 45 brands under its wings, the Aditya Birla group has reserved its place in the Fortune 500. The Birla group grew along with the nation, under the leadership of Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla, Mr. Aditya Bikram Birla and is now headed by Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla. Though its contribution cannot be measured, it goes without saying that Aditya Birla was a boon to the Indian economy, at a time when it needed business leaders to forge the road ahead.
ABG justifies its tagline of ” Big in your Life”. Big because ABG with brands like Ted Baker London, VanHeusen, UtraTech Cement, Forever 21, Freshwrapp, and more has its presence in almost everything we can imagine.
Being a management student, Guest Lectures and Corporate Meetings are a part of my routine, for which I require formals and therefore ABG comes to my rescue via brands like Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England, and Louis Philippe, I proudly wear that suit which reflects my self-esteem.
Then comes the everyday lectures with which arises the need for casual clothing, which is also met by ABG, Pantaloons.
And then the most happening part of an MBA student's life, freshers' party, farewell party, success party and more, which requires gorgeous, elegant, classy clothing, here again, ABG comes into the picture, Yes, you guessed it right! Forever 21.
Not only this when I get late for college and I require something to carry my breakfast the first thing that comes to my mind is Freshpakk Aluminium Foil Containers, Freshwrapp Aluminium Foil and more.
ABG is also in my palm because Hindalco Aluminium is used to make cover glass for a smartphone which helps in protecting my phone if I drop it during the daily hustle-bustle of my life.
Also for all my necessities, I have a MORE store near my house and shopping from MORE again makes ABG Big in life.
As an Indian, it is a matter of pride to have a company that has stood the test of time and delivered brands and values to challenge competitive markets, all over the world. This itself has made "ABG, Big In My Life".
Part B
Life has not been a bed of roses, nor has it been a path of thorns. Being born and brought up in a middle-class family, one gets to see the difficulties that life has to offer but is shielded by the love and care of parents.
I am fortunate to have such a family that has taken care of all my needs and at the same time has ensured that I was ready to face the world on my own. The importance of education was imbibed in me since childhood, and I made it a point to give my best efforts in academics and other co-curricular activities.
I have always been a diligent and hardworking student ever since my childhood. And I have made it a priority to make my parents proud of whatever I do.
But life doesn't go as per your thinking, it offers its own ups and downs.
It was during my class XII broad exam preparation when I had to overcome the biggest challenge of my life "Exam Phobia".
I used to study everything, prepare everything beforehand but feared the most important part- Giving Exams!!
Yes, even after studying everything throughout the year I did not have the courage to appear for my board exams.
But all thanks to my father, he never gave up on me. He kept on motivating me throughout my board exams and gave me the courage to appear for my exams.
On the day of my board exam results, my mother and I, we were both worried about my results but my father was pretty chill.
He always knew that I would pass my board exams with flying colors.
And to our surprise he was right, I scored in 90s.
That was it.
This was one of the challenges that I overcame to achieve my ambitions in life so far.
Since then I have decided to forge ahead and gear up for whatever challenges the future has to offer. As long as the destination is clear in my mind, the difficulties won’t be a hindrance.
