Very often from our beginnings we have been told that if we succeed in getting good scores we’d get this or that as a reward. This reward system ruined the ethical core in me and built up a performance pressure in everything in life. I would perceive the failure as endgame. During engineering days from Delhi college of engineering, I had interacted with the diversity for the first time in my life. The exposure that I thought I had in Delhi was enough to gauge the perceptions or enough to make me ready for life challenges. But all along I was wrong. I learnt that many across the nation goes through the same anxiety. The anxiety to perform better and become successful in every task or job I would be assigned. Though this is a driving force, but at times this stress becomes a weight on shoulder. People there taught me to be a driven towards life goals but with a little relaxation time. But what to do during relaxation time? Learning, it was the objective. I devoted that time period in skill building, opening my horizons for various objectives which could benefit an organization. This built the base for my biggest challenge so far, which I encountered in job. Sequential failures of business units established across tier 2 and tier 3 cities. That was a major blow on our business team and to my career in the beginning. I was wondering what went wrong? The reason was simple, my team and I gauged diversified experience with people of our small sample set and extrapolated it and failed in our social engineering to understand the pricing, sentiments of people about the product and services and not only that, I thought that rewarding people with extra services would bring success. This built a lot of anxiety for success. This became a challenge to overcome both personally and professionally. Answer was simple, learning more about the business and I decided to join PGP program from IIM. The program redefined my core and gave me a new direction to think and approach problems. Though the anxiety still pops up now and then but I came a long way from reward system to self-driven self, a challenge I have been working to get over.
