Slowly and steadily they entered into a lot of avenues. Any field you think of, you can find a direct involvement with the Aditya Birla Group. From clothes (Grasim and Pantaloons), to cement ( UltraTech), to communication ( Idea); from Metals and minerals ( Hindalco) to managing money ( Aditya Birla Capital), all these seemingly unrelated industries have one name in common and that is the Aditya Birla Group.
As a consumer, I have been a user of the products and services of the aforementioned .But my first-hand experience of the Aditya Birla group was my project work in Hindalco plant in Muri, Jharkhand. As a chemical engineer in my second year, I had an enriching experience with my first interaction with the plant. It was then I encountered the positive culture of the group. I was lucky to stay in their colony.
One distinctive thing about them is that, they don’t only care about their entity only, but the whole eco-system as a whole. A few programs which I was able to encounter with my one-month stint were the education program for daily workers, the state-of-the-art facility for employee’s families in one of the backward regions of the state, the regular CSR activity involving students from neighbouring areas. The focus on the employees, casual workers and just the surroundings is something which has made as great as they are today.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far.
If I had to pinpoint on all the challenges, I had to face till date to make me where I do stand right now, I will have to go back to the January of 2012. The day is still vivid in my mind. It was the 4th of January and I was going to play football in a ground that was a little far from my home. A friend of mine had come to pick me up on his bike. I can you can imagine where this story is going. We met with an accident on the way, and I had fractured my right leg.
I was absolutely devastated by the accident. At the moment, I was not sure if I would ever be able to walk on my feet. 2012 was the also the year I was to appear for my board exams. There were so many thoughts going through my mind, and all were scary prospects.
The reports were relatively positive. I had just fractured my leg but I would have been in the wheelchair for a few months. The initial days I was just angry with myself to have put myself in such a situation. I didn’t feel like studying. But then there was an Idea that changed my life.
I cannot have any control on all the things in my life. Any situation that happens to me, is based on a lot of other permutations and combinations in the background and there is no way I can influence that. The only thing I can influence on my end is my effort. I can only give myself the best possible opportunity for my life.
So, I pulled my socks and started to concentrate on the things I can influence. It was a tough ask, but the limitation of having no legs to run, kind of worked in my favour. The pain in my legs was too much initially but I was able to handle the pain better and better. I was able to study diligently , and in the end I excelled in the exams.
Challenges are only a part of your life. It’s on you on how you take it, whether it makes you weaker or it makes you a better and stronger person.
