I agree with her totally. I had my internship at Planning Commission of India in 2011 and its a different experience altogether. This was a time when Anna Hazare movement was going on right across the street from my workplace. You get to see the working and views of the government from the inside. The discussions with the officials at Government is totally different. They give a macro perspective about various policies and actions of govt. From the outside, we only criticize about various actions of govt. from a common man's knowledge but from the inside you understand the real reason for various decisions and years of research that goes into that. Montek Singh Ahluwalia used to call all interns as observers for any official meetings (which were not classified for general public). Mr. Arun Maira used to call us for general discussions over a cup of tea. It used to be an open sessions and we could ask almost anything under the sun. All in all, stipend may be less at Govt. but these two months are full of some real useful experience at these places.
