Passion is not always a profession

I have always believed in doing what you feel is correct for you. After completing my high school, painting and sketching were hobbies and every space and time that I could get for myself I was doing it in different forms and mediums, exploring different ideas. With the idea of converting this passion into my profession, I went forward and starting applying for various designing courses. During my preparations for the entrance exams, I came across the difference of what I want to create and what would be expected of me as a professional in the field. To realize that what you want is not what you do, it was a harsh reality check for an eighteen-year-old mind.
Doing something as a passion and as a profession is very different and it was difficult for me to understand it and much more to accept it. as an interest or a hobby, you do it for yourself but when it gets converted into the profession before your others come into the picture. What I used to enjoy was the creation that I did. To create an image that is in your mind on a paper is relaxing not commercial. To make it commercial you have to consider what others want or perceive it as.
To understand that I love designing for myself, not for others and taking it up as a career will not make it easy or fun for me to do it. To lose out a hobby to a profession may lead to frustrations and unhappiness in professional as well as personal life. At the point of time, I took a step back and differentiate in what I do for myself and what I can see myself doing for others. During the two years of high school, I had developed an interest in the field of commerce. It was something that I could see myself performing with interest. Even after securing a place in a premium designing institute I went for bachelors of commerce for my father studies for the same reason. I explored the various subjects and fields during my undergrad. The support I received from my family to pursue both the fields and in choosing one as a profession and other only as a hobby was what I counted on in all the decisions I made. Today I am sitting in a B school, pursuing my master’s degree in business administration and performing and organizing as a part of designing team for various events and competition. I have both a profession and a passion. The work which I do and learn here is for others, keeping in mind what they need and how I can make it better for them and hobbies which I have is for me to relax, to enjoy, to rejuvenate and perform in whichever way I like. I am there for myself, all my time is not for my work and others or only for me. This different and balance that I have been able to recognize has helped in situations making it possible for me to give priority to different things at different points of time. Your interest stays with you, it develops with time. you do not have to make it a profession to do it. The profession is not what you do in your free time. You need to like what you do at work but you do not have to bring it home every night to excel in it.
