I would like to give a note on how Aditya Birla Group shaped my life in the past decade or so.
My first interaction with Aditya Birla Group has happened through Idea Cellular Limited. When my parents bought their first mobile handsets, I remember staring at the 4 letter word Idea beside few vertical bars on the screen. Though I was unaware about the brand and the company at that point of time, all I can say is it helped my parents stay in touch with their friends and relatives, etc. It eased their lives as they found means of communicating on the move.
Moving on, Aditya Birla Group offers various choices regarding fashion through brands such as Allen Solly, Peter England, Van Heusen, etc. When I had to move to a different city to join my first job, I packed my bags with formal shirts and trousers of the above brands mentioned. The clothing made me feel comfortable as well as look confident, that these brands became my go to choices whenever I think about buying clothes.
But I think the biggest role Aditya Birla Group has played in my life is how it shaped my thought process through its CSR activities. It made me to think about my social responsibility and inspired me to work with NGOs to bring a change in someone’s life. This experience has helped me in understanding the ground realities of the problems faced by the different sections of the society and to tackle them in an effective way.
How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far?
Challenges can be looked at in two ways – as obstacles in your path or opportunities to build your skill set and make yourself a better person.
When I was in my school, one thing that constantly bogged me down was my stage fear. I was unable to express myself in front of a group. This created a perception that I might not be good at leadership despite my other traits. So, when intra school debate was conducted, I decided to take the bull by the horns. I registered to put myself in an uncomfortable position and see how I would react to it. Unsurprisingly, that did not go well in the first attempt. So, I sought help from my friends and teachers and participated in all such events until I felt comfortable about myself. I may not be a great orator even today but I mustered enough courage and confidence to express myself in front of a group.
There were more challenges at various phases of my life. Though they were different in nature, they all reinstated the common learnings.
1) Challenges are part and parcel of life, hence they need to be looked as opportunities rather than as obstacles.
2) There will be people around us who have the ability and willingness to help. All we need to do is to approach them with intention to overcome the challenge rather than escaping it.
3) More difficult the challenge is, the better person you would be after overcoming it.
These are few lessons that keep me prepared for new challenges in life.
