There are few challenges which I faced when I was in college. One of them was the organizing of an event at college technical fest. Starting from design of a particular event to the procurement of row material and promotion of an event, everything was on track. But, one day before the event we found out that the sample model of my event was faulty. The task was to make a pulley driven boat, but here due to some error in design we found that the boat was not moving forward in the water. I along with my team of 20 people started finding solutions for it. A long brain storming session has been done. Then suddenly one of the team members came with a solution of using “6 thinking hat”. We applied that philosophy in the simplest manner as we could. And after 2 hours of intense discussion we find the root cause of the problem and we changed the design of rowers and turned its design into a propeller.
At that time, I realised that, “The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.” This particular thought made me realised to look at the simplest things in life with utmost attention. Sometimes the solution is there but you are so engulfed in other matters that you cannot see it.
After my graduation when I stepped my foot in the world of corporate, I faced lots of challenges in terms of managing time, managing vendors and managing deadlines. My first independent assignment at Linde Engineering India was the most challenging task for me as I was entrusted with responsibility of handling a package worth 20 lacs with a short delivery span of 5 months compared to 8-10 months usual delivery period. To meet the critical delivery period of 5 months, I had gone out of my usual domain of responsibilities. With the proactive approach, I devised a schedule for critical phases for my vendors. To reduce the document approval time, periodic meetings were arranged, comment resolution sheet were made and standard document templates were sent to vendor. It reduced the document turn around time by 40%. I had assumed the responsibilities of expediter, project controller, inspection and project manager. With those approaches not only the delivery period was achieved but also appreciation was received from client- Prexair for extra ordinary work.
With the help of various learnings received throughout my journey, I am able to reach where I am. Though I received a set back in first attempt at cracking an MBA entrance exam, I was able to get a huge success during my second attempt.
As it is very well said, “When you want something, all universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”
