I am always awestruck by the unbelievable mega structures I witness all around in today’s world. I felt the same when I witnessed India’s first Sea-Link, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. It is a wonderful feeling driving through this engineering marvel. It is a known fact that Ultratech Cement was used for building this engineering marvel. Aditya Birla Group is part of our life in ways I cannot even begin to fathom. Who knows, maybe the very room I am sitting right now has been constructed using the reliable Ultratech cement!
Hunger Care – A Noble Cause
When I was a kid, I never knew what starvation was. I never felt that emptiness in my stomach not being satiated. But as the wise saying goes, 'There’s a first time for everything', there came a day to make me realise the unfulfilled pang of hunger.
I was travelling with my mom to Chennai by train. During our journey, I saw a lady carrying her child in a sack tied to her shoulders, and begging. The child was crying loudly. Perplexed, I asked my mom the reason for the child's agony. My mom told me that the kid is hungry and is crying out for food. The answer welcomed me to the harsh reality and with the fact that there are people out there who cannot afford food and that many live in a hand-to-mouth situation. That day I decided to always strive towards wiping out starvation from this society and made that as my ambition. I did everything that I could to curb deprivation of food for those who could not afford it. I used to feed the needy during weekends in my locality. My activity was restricted to my locality only. I wanted to upscale this activity and wanted to expand it. My primary challenge was to find people who could volunteer to assist me in this deed.
During my graduation, I along with my friends created ‘Hunger Care’. We decided to distribute homemade food to the needy in multiple locations simultaneously on a pre-decided date. To our immense surprise, social media came to the rescue and became the key driver of our agenda. We created a Facebook page and requested people to join the page. We got good support for this cause and many of them were from different cities. Slowly and steadily, my ambition was getting a constructive shape. We decided to distribute homemade food every weekend in multiple cities. Initially, we carried out this in Pune, Mumbai, Delhi and Bhubaneswar. As an individual it was difficult for me to scale it at this level, but I found a way out and formed a team through which I was able to exponentially expand this noble cause.
I always think of doing something good for the society and make it a better place to live in. I hope one day I will be able to reduce starvation and make food available to all the needy people across the world.
