Challenges that ground me-
I don’t keep regret in life. My life has been unembellished yet engaging. I belong to a very small village ‘PARDA’ that is in Madhya Pradesh. For a person like me who bolted his journey from a government school (I hope you better know the conditions of government schools in India) to securing admission in IIM seemed like a phantasm, but my ambition propelled me there. I usually make a short term goal and try to achieve that rather than keeping and accumulating on a long one.
During my initial days, I was not fond of studies. We did not have much access to the outside world, so we never had much information available. My ambitions started brewing when I missed the district merit list of fifth standard state board examinations just by a fraction. My first aim was to be a district merit holder. I switched school and embarked on a new journey in a nearby town. Initially, there were some problems as the course was not easy, we had to walk three to four kilometres a day to reach the school. There were obstacles but slowly we got accustomed to it. I secured a rank in the district merit list of eighth standard state board examinations. That was the moment I started keeping expectation to myself. Afterwards, I performed well at academics. As a teenager I was fascinated by automobiles which thrust me to enrol for Mechanical Engineering. It was the phase that refined me. For the first time, I left my home for studies. Initial few days were very challenging as I had to do all the things on my own. During that time I discover the greatest strength of my life 'adaptability'. As the journey progressed, I started participating in some vehicle building competitions. It was very difficult for me to manage academics with those activities. The most challenging assignment was BAJA as I was leading the team of 25 members as being Vice-captain. As it was a live project I had to learn many things but the team coordination worked well and all things became easy. Many situations came where we were not able to execute the plans properly, but those incidents made a huge contribution to my learning. My biggest learning was that ‘Always, you have to be ready with an alternate plan’. Those activities nurtured my team working & leadership skills and made me able to manage things effectively.
The skills and the abilities that I acquired helped me a lot at the workplace. Situations came when people did not want to cooperate. There I learnt that if someone helps you in doing something, it’s good; but if you learn things on your own then it gives you a better opportunity to rediscover yourself. With the job, I started preparing for CAT keeping the only thing in mind to end up in IIM. I got a call, converted that, and hence the destiny brought a new destination: IIM Nagpur. And here, life goes on…………..
