Part B – Challenges I’ve overcome to achieve my ambitions
I began my career as a software engineer at Aricent with the objective of being a pure Software Developer in a niche field. However, due to business requirements, I was unable to pursue a career in the field of my choice. I had to take on different roles at the organization within a very short span of time. Since the skillset and scope of each of these roles were quite varied, I felt some initial trepidation and found the experience challenging to begin with. However, I learnt to rapidly adjust to dynamic requirements and expectations, while constantly learning on the job in order to complete my assigned tasks. The more I learnt, the more I would guide and share my knowledge with my peers. This experience earned me the reputation of being a fast learner and a reliable engineer. I learned the value of accountability and self-motivation. I then set my sights on Regression testing, I leveraged the wider perspective I had gained from being in several roles, to identify and implement optimizations to the Regression test suite, reducing over 15 hours of test run-time, as well as improving the reusability of test scripts. This experience helped me understand that any project, no matter how daunting it may seem at first glance, can be broken down into smaller, more easily manageable tasks that can be conquered with planning and consistent efforts. It sparked my interest to better manage myself as well as my team's efforts, and eventually led me to an MBA course at SIBM Bengaluru.
