Not only has Aditya Birla group made a mark within the country but made the country proud by delivering products of excellence across 34 countries like USA, Brazil, Australia etc. One of them being, Novelis Inc. is the leading producer of flat-rolled aluminium products and the world’s largest recycler of aluminium. Moreover, I along with 65 crores young Indians under the age of 30, would like to be part of India’s dream of inching towards becoming 5 trillion dollars economy by 2024. However, every dream needs leaders with a vision to make it come true. Aditya Birla group with it’s leadership program has been serving the nation by nurturing future business leaders and thus would play a major role in achieving this beautiful dream of we Indians.
At the core of the ABGLP program are people who drive to make an impact, irrespective of what challenges they face.
how you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far.
Leadership is a virtue that has always attracted me. My fascination for civil services grew as it would have offered me an avenue to exhibit leadership and creates a positive impact on the societal and economic level. After working for 17 months in the manufacturing sector, I quit my lucrative job to prepare for UPSC civil services. I diligently prepared for the examination with utmost sincerity and disciplined hermit-like lifestyle.
However, in spite of repeated efforts, I could not clear the examination. After introspection and discussion with my parents, I decided to stop pursuing the preparation as the opportunity cost and the career risk involved was increasing with every failure. It was an emotionally challenging situation to detach from something you are really passionate about. But as in finance, hedging is a concept that is applicable in life as well. The maturity lies in stop investing in non-performing assets beyond a certain limit.
However, this setback has left me with major lessons in life. One of the most important lessons it taught me was that there is “no single path that is ultimate” to achieve your vision. Failure is difficult, but one should not be fixated on it. There are multiple reasons that are beyond our control and we should rather accept failure and move forward. There are multiple paths to reach a destination. Thus I decided to move forward with my same vision of leadership and prepared for MBA examination in a short period of 3 months.
Failure also taught me the value of “humility”. It made me more humble; it stripped the veil of arrogance and cloak of invincibility. It made me realise that success and defeat, both are temporary and I should not be emotionally charged and get swayed by them. It helped me to shed my false ego and empathise more with people struggling in various aspects of life.
The failure ultimately helped me become a well-read, balanced and diverse opinionated personality due to which I could clear the MBA entrance exam in spite of immense extrinsic pressure. I am now a proud student of a prestigious institute, IIM Raipur. I would strive to become a business leader in future who could positively impact the society. Sometimes god’s best gifts are some unanswered prayers. I am glad that I failed and learnt important lessons in life. The lessons, whose application is beyond the realm of my imagination. And as Steve Jobs said, “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards".
