Yes, I am talking about none other than Hindalco Industries Ltd.-(A subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group), and a flagship company in Metal Business.

I had a chance to visit Hindalco during my graduation and was awestruck by the sprawling 1056-acre Renukoot complex located near Rihand Dam, 160 Km from the city of Varanasi. Today Hindalco operates across the aluminium value chain from Bauxite Mining, Aluminium Refining to downstream rolling and extrusions.

Started by Shiv Narayan Birla, way back in 1860’s, from a small place called “Birla Haveli” in Pilani, Rajasthan, the group now ranks among “Asia’s Biggest Multinational Conglomerate”, headquartered in Mumbai.

From the moment, I visited Hindalco, as an Electrical Engineering graduate for Project Training until now; I have been all praise for Aditya Birla Group. Its pivotal role in structuring India be it via Ultra-Tech Cement, Aditya Birla Capital (one window for Universal Financial Solutions), setting up Hindalco NOVELLIS to being the Global Leader in Carbon Black, speaks volumes in itself.

25-year old’s like me crave for fashion and India’s Largest Fashion Retailer-Aditya Birla Group comes to our rescue by selling in-house brands like – Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Pantaloons and Peter England-producing at the rate of 30 outfits per second.

“A vision becomes a milestone when it touches billions of lives every single day”-and Birla Group’s VODAFONE-IDEA venture conveys this message by staying “Stronger Together-Giving Expressions to a new India”.

Aditya Birla Group has always been Big in My Life- from being a pedestal of education during my engineering internship at Hindalco-“A leader in Aluminium and Copper” to infusing in me a good sense of fashion with a wide variety of apparel coming straight from its famous in-house brands-“Allen Solly”, ”Van Heusen” and “Pantaloons”. ABG group has always helped me keep up with the latest trends in the corporate world.

Now when I am at IIM Raipur, aspiring to make it big in the Marketing arena, who better to start a career with, other than ABG group-“A fortune 500 Company”.

I wish to make it there!

I hail from a middle class background where the general perception of people towards a girl child is:

“To provide her with “just enough” education, to make her fit for marriage.”

“This was not what I was meant for”-is the first thought that came to my mind the moment I grew mature enough to understand the society dynamics and how it functions. I was an ardent follower of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam whose book-“Wings of Fire” inspired me to “Dream Big” and “Not stop until it is achieved”.

Keeping this frame of mind, I never looked back and became an Engineer making my professional career with one of the biggest and most successful Tech-giants “Tata Consultancy Services”, a subsidiary of Tata Group operating in 46 countries and having its presence worldwide.

Working with TCS gave me immense exposure with some of the best clients-“Barclays International Bank” being one of them. Not that I never faced challenges at work but I always overcame them, coming up with the best of solutions.

I can relate to one such challenging event wherein I had to shoulder the responsibility of managing two entire Jurisdictions-INDIA and UAE (out of 8 jurisdictions in which Barclays operates in-Spain, France, Mexico, Germany being few of them).This was the time when my senior colleague left the project.

I shouldered the responsibility, handled the code base all alone along with managing the entire Agile-Scrum Team.

Henceforth I received “On the Spot” award from TCS and steered my team to get the “STAR Team Award” with 98 per cent CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index).

Getting appreciations from onsite counterpart made me realize that I could work well in Managerial capacity as well.

I am here at IIM Raipur because I believe that it will provide me with one such learning ladder that will help me transition myself from managing a corporate “technical team” to a becoming a Business leader with sound understanding of Business goals and marketing dynamics. 

 

With guidance from one of the best faculties and exposure to new experiences with handpicked students from across the nation, I believe it to be the golden window I have aspired for all my life.
