The initial conversation was a light note sharing of pleasantries and talking about what I like and do not like. Then it got into the technical part where they asked questions about marketing and how I would conduct a sales and they also asked case situations related to general management. Nothing was related to their company. The interview went for 15 mins but I felt it was of 5 mins. I gave pretty good answers than I had expected and I was somehow confident that may be there is a chance I'll get selected. The lady had hung up after she had said "you will get to know about the further rounds soon" and I did not get any mails or calls till about a fortnight.
One night, I was practising cricket with my team for a match to be held the next day and suddenly a friend came towards us shouting "Hey, Tanushree has got internship at Ballad Media. Congrats, Tanu!". And the first thought that came to my mind was "is she joking cause I am pretty sure there were going to be tough rounds..". But the mail was clear.
On joining the company as an intern, how has your onboarding experience been like?
I have never had any internship or job experience before and as freshers we are always excited to start doing a job and get paid. So I was excited and anxious for my internship to start too. My company's business and the job role demanded us to work in office but the severe pandemic and strict lockdown all over India had left us working from home. Still, I was very eagerly waiting to hit that link to join the meeting. I had joined 10 mins before the time, so you can see my excitement.
The General Manager of Ballad Media was in the call with 5 other interns from my college and myself. Our meeting started with a brief introduction of each one of us. Then Sapna ma'am went on to tell us more about the company and our roles. It was a two-hour meeting and I had already learnt much more than what I had learnt in the classes of Marketing Management in college. Only a practical experience was left to gain.
The approach of internship was very systematic here. As we were Sales and Marketing interns, our first week's task was to conduct a market research on our prospective clients. This seemed a very easy task but by the next day we were loaded with doubts whether the clients we are looking for were suitable for the company or not. Immediately a second meeting was scheduled with the Managing Director of the company, who took another two hours to share with us his practical knowledge as much as possible. Both these meetings were very interactive and all the interns seemed as interested in the work as I was.
The entire week went by searching for potential clients for the company and making an excel sheet. It might seem very boring and at times it was, but I think these are the basics of Business Management, to know what customers your business wants and what services your customers want.
