people, the basic need is food, shelter, and clothes. Aditya Birla group is into all of them. For shelter
we require raw materials like Cement etc, food is delivered via Aditya Birla retail and in clothes(Peter
England), it has various brands like Peter England, Madura garments. ABG has constantly innovated
to meet the demands of the consumers. Through its brand, it has not only communicated the values
of the group but has also been able to motivate us.
Coming from a middle-class family, my father made sure that I had a good schooling throughout and
have an enriching experience. So, he sent me and my brother to DAV school. All kinds of people are
there in school coming from a different kind of background. Meeting those friends outside the
school premises, when I used to see them wearing expensive branded clothes, I used to get
fascinated by it. Ultimately, I would put an ultimatum at home that I also want to wear the same
clothes. After a lot of discussions and cold war with family (I was a kid then), Peter England came to
the rescue, not only was the clothes stylish and trendy, but they were economical too. I used to feel
pride after wearing those clothes. It ultimately made me happy. This, in turn, made my parents also
happy.
This has not been the most rational demand, but I was a kid then, with lots of aspirations. So in a
way, ABG had managed to keep the equilibrium at my home both in terms of happiness and father’s
pocket.
PART B
I have been an average student throughout my life. But here is the thing, I had constantly
improved one way or the other. From scoring 60s in 6th class to scoring 80 in 8th class to 90
in 10th class to 88 in the 12th class, it has always been a good learning for me. In between
this journey, there were peaks and valleys. But I overcame them all. I have always been
exploring a variety of things be it guitar, flute, swimming, badminton, football, poetry, singing.
I get distracted way too easily. These distractions were the reason why in my journey if you
plot it on the graph, you will find too many valleys. I knew there was a problem, I also knew
what was the problem, but did I know how to correct it? Did I know If there was anything that
I learned from it?
I knew the problem was that I got distracted easily. I couldn’t just simply correct it, that
looked very impossible for me. But I was able to cut down on some distractions. Focus is
what I had to do. I draw all my motivation and inspiration from my elder brother who was also
an average student like me but a little better. With focus and perseverance, he was able to
crack the top examination of India and he ultimately got admission to MAMC (MBBS). Was it
easy for him? No! he did it against the odds. Seeing him getting through and enjoying every
moment, I also started doing the same. I just used to ask myself one question every time I
was doing something; i.e. would it give me more joy than the other thing that I was not
doing? The answer to this question helped me cut down on some distractions. This whole
process ultimately helped me land admission to one of the premier B-school of India, Indian
Institute of Management, Raipur.
Was it hard? Yes! Is it worth it? Hell yeah!
