B- schools going online is an disadvantage to the students on many fronts. The uncertainty in duration of the online courses, summer placements, and how companies view this change as in terms of the quality/competence of the students undergoing online MBA programmes. There will hardly be any difference between an online certification course or an MBA online ( irrespective of the fees they charge). Coming to the fees reduction part, generally, the fee charged at IIM's constitute tuition fees, accommodation, library etc. The revised fee should exclude accommodation fee, library fee ( can charge for digital stuff though) as well as tution fee ( a considerable reduction is required because the live online classes could be a hindrance ( in terms of group assignments, debates, quizzes where peer to peer interaction is affected adversely leading to semi baked or incomplete sense of MBA education)) because the classes are recordable and reproductive to the future batches, thus an profitable asset to b school management. Keeping these factors in mind the b- school fees should be scaled accordingly for the duration of the course being offered online. For many of us who had a limited campus experience ( people and infrastructure), it would be a dull move to stay indoors for MBA. The club's, committees , competitions ( the essential 3 C's of MBA education) would go virtual, scaling down the quality of MBA education overall. The very idea of online MBA is demotivating for those who want a break from their regular work or college life. This fact is independent of the fees prospects.
